Cat Walk 2004
![]() "Stepping
out for Spay &
Neuter"
Walkers immediately donned their CatWalk tee shirt handed out at
registration. The group looked quite festive and unified as they
strolled through the area sporting identical shirts. Randy Jennings of
San Jose created the design for the front of the shirt -- a bright
orange tabby with blue tennis shoes.
“This is the most participation we have had for a walk-a-thon,” stated Tracy Kirsten, Chairperson of the CatWalk Committee. The group’s first walk-a-thon held in October of 2000 attracted 22 walkers and netted about $1100. The purpose of the first walk-a-thon was to raise money for cataract surgery for a frisky Russian Blue kitten named Victor. The purpose of this year’s walk-a-thon was to raise funds for Folsom Feline Rescue’s feral spay/neuter program. FFR provides free spay and neuter certificates for cats, both tame and feral, and for dogs. The goal this year was to raise $5,000 and the group has already exceeded that. All monies collected will be used to help the local communities. By spaying and neutering pets and ferals, FFR will take part in decreasing the numbers of unwanted litters that end up in the animal shelters. After the 5K walk through Folsom, the walkers gathered at Yagers Tap House and Grille on Sutter Street in Folsom and enjoyed lunch, dessert, and congratulatory speeches. Raffle prizes were distributed to those with winning raffle tickets and prizes were also distributed to the top three pledge gatherers. Folsom Feline Rescue thanks all the walkers who brought in pledges and all the business sponsors who gave monetary donations or raffle prizes. The support of the local community is very important to FFR. Please visit our web pages of past events. They are always fun for the whole family including dogs. Please support our event sponsors FFR is a 100% volunteer, non-profit, tax-exempt corporation dedicated to feline rescue.
