CatWalk registration fees and pledges will support Folsom Feline Rescue's spay and neuter programs for companion cats and dogs, as well as feral cats.

The slogan for the 2007 walk is "Prevention is wiser than destruction. Please spay and neuter your pets." Thousands of unwanted cats and dogs are euthanized each year in Sacramento County's overcrowded public shelters. Each spayed or neutered animal prevents potential offspring from growing up and having offspring of their own. To date, Folsom Feline Rescue's spay and neuter programs have helped "fix" more than 3200 cats and dogs in Sacramento County.

On Saturday October 13th Folsom Feline Rescue held our 7th CatWalk. Walkers started from historic Sutter Street in Folsom and walked a distance of 5K in view of the beautiful American River. It's always a fun event with lots of adults and children, babies in strollers, and dogs on leashes.

In addition to the walk itself we had some special fun for CatWalk. Walkers were encouraged to make the walk in their Halloween costumes! At the end of the walk, we held a costume contest. Our judges selected the top three costumes, and those three lucky walkers won some great prizes, such as a spa gift certificate or a night on the town with dinner and a movie.

A contest for the dog wearing the best costume was also held. The winning pooch received a great dog-themed prize.

Registration began at 8:30 a.m. at the event desk in the railroad roundtable parking lot across from the intersection of Sutter Street and Decatur in old town Folsom. The walk started at 10:00 a.m.

Controlling pet overpopulation is a major goal of Folsom Feline Rescue. Thousands of unwanted cats and dogs are euthanized each year in Sacramento County alone. Each animal that we can spay or neuter prevents potential offspring (usually 4 to 6 puppies or kittens per season) from growing up and having yet more offspring of their own. Together as a community we can break the cycle of misery caused by pet overpopulation.
