"LapCats" Mingle with Seniors
By Shirley Brown

Folsom Feline Rescue (FFR) brought their "LapCats" to College Oak Nursing Home in Sacramento on Saturday, September 23, to visit the residents. The social hour started at 10:00 a.m. when FFR volunteers arrived with their carriers transporting Sonny, Casey, Jamie, Scooter, Bootsie, and Roxs to the recreation hall.

John Bennett, President and co-founder of FFR, noted that the College Oak residents all perked up when the volunteers started circulating among them with the friendly felines. They were pleased to have the chance to pet and hold an affectionate cat, and they were also happy with the attention from the volunteers.

One of the tenants, Norma, was heard to say, "This is such a treat." Don, another resident, made friends with feline Casey as he hummed along with the piped-in "Big Band" music. Dorothy made it clear with her big grin that she loves cats. Another resident, Hazel, came to the social appropriately dressed in a cat print blouse.

Folsom Feline Rescue is a non-profit group staffed by volunteers and dedicated to feline rescue. Their goals include rescue of abandoned and unwanted cats, finding appropriate homes, educating the public, and controlling overpopulation. The group is spreading their message that they have adoptable cats in need of good homes. For more information about FFR or "LapCats", you can contact them at (916) 484-4099 or access their website at www.folsomfelines.org.

Tracy Kirsten, organizer of Folsom Feline Rescue's "LapCats" Program,
stated, "The FFR group was well received by the College Oak Nursing Home residents and staff." When they got ready to leave, the question was put to FFR, "When are you coming back?"
