Phoenix School Students Raise Money for Felines!
Students at a local Phoenix School in Folsom
raised money to help support Folsom Feline Rescue's spay &
neuter programs. The third grade classes of Mrs. McCracken and
Mrs. Loveland wanted to do something to help a local animal
rescue group and decided on a fundraising event to collect money
and food. On Tuesday, March 25 The students collected the donation money in five 2 litter plastic soda bottles that they hand decorated with colored paper. Mr. Bennett stated that the the kids raised over $176 dollars from the event. In addition bags of cat food and cat treats were donated to help feed hungry felines. The Phoenix School’s Folsom campus is an independent school for Kindergarten through 8th grade students The campus prides itself not only on their advanced academic performance but also in the performing arts and the state of the art computer technology. Learning is also brought outside the classroom in life labs where each class is responsible for the growing and harvesting of vegetables. LapCats volunteers, both human and feline, visit a different facility each month. Currently, seven local assisted living facilities receive visits on a revolving basis.
The LapCats Special Care program is held the first Saturday of every month. These visits are dedicated to special care wards to visit those seniors with serious health issues, or who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, or who are unresponsive for some reason. Currently, Fountainwood Assisted Living in Orangevale is the only facility that is scheduled for monthly Special Care visits, but in the future, Folsom Feline Rescue expects to expand the program to other facilities.
To request a visit by LapCats volunteers, or to volunteer to assist with either program, Folsom Feline Rescue can be reached at (916) 484-4099.
