How It All Began

Folsom Feline Rescue began on May 9th just last year, all because of a special cat named "Missy." 

Three and half years ago, my husband, John, and I lost our cat of 6 years. Missy had been very special to us and her death came suddenly. One night we came home to find several areas where she'd vomited. A couple days later, she was admitted to the hospital and placed in an oxygen tank. They said she had a heart condition, and she had so much fluid in her lungs, she couldn't breathe on her own. I took the next day off, a Friday, and

stayed with her. She had an oxygen mask and a catheter hooked up. She grabbed my finger with her paw, like she always did, looked in my eyes, and let out a guttural sound. I stayed with her an hour, and then the fluid in her lungs got so bad that she was drowning in it. She passed, and I thought my life had ended with hers.

The Story of Victor

Victor, a very sweet, Russian blue kitten, was rescued from a downtown Sacramento location in the summer of 2000. He was born to a feral cat and he would have been homeless, wild, and eventually blind if not captured and treated. Victor had cataracts.

He was seeing only shadows at the time of rescue and he occasionally bumped into things. He was timid and insecure. Loud, sudden noises frightened him.

We determined after consulting with a veterinarian that Victor was
healthy (except for the cataracts) and had many years of "the good
life" ahead of him. The veterinarian was certain that surgery would
