"LapCats"

By Shirley Brown

"LapCats" is the name of one of our most popular  programs. It involves visits to the community in which we bring with our friendly felines for socializing.

The purpose of the "LapCats" is to bring enjoyment to some folks who may need a little attention or who may need a little diversion in their lives. Additionally, "LapCats" is a way for us to educate the public about the benefits and responsibilities of owning a pet. We also spread the word about Folsom Feline Rescue, our mission and goals.

Our Special Events Coordinator, Tracy Kirsten, plans and organizes "LapCats" visits. Tracy has had excellent feedback from the homes where "LapCats" have been received. The residents of College Oak Nursing Home in Sacramento and Folsom Convalescent Hospital in Folsom were particularly pleased when "LapCats" visited. The FFR volunteers got together with the residents in the social hall at each location and the residents, who showed an interest, got to hold and pet a sociable kitty. The residents responded to the attention from the cats and the volunteers, as well. Everyone, including the nursing home staff, enjoyed the purring, playful felines.
