On December 14, 2002, Folsom Feline Rescue's famous "LapCats" teamed up with volunteers from the Folsom Kiwanis Club to host a special Christmas LapCats event at Folsom Convalescent Hospital.
Kiwanis Club president, Mori Genser-Pagle contacted FFR expressing keen interest to have the Folsom Kiwanis club participate in the LapCats program. The Kiwanis club goals are to provide volunteer services to children and the elderly.
The LapCats program is right up their alley because their volunteers love cats and love making elderly folks smile!
The Kiwanis key club, made up of Folsom and El Dorado Hills high school students also participated in the event. All volunteers came to Folsom Convalescent Hospital with bright smiling faces ready to entertain and be merry. Kiwanis volunteers kicked off the LapCats event by offering punch and decorative Christmas cookies. As the residents enjoyed their refreshments the Kiwanis volunteers sang a myriad of Christmas carols from Silent Night to Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer. Some of the residents even joined in on the singing. All the residents and volunteers enjoyed the Christmas carols and waited in anticipation of when the famous LapCats would arrive.
There were four LapCats in attendance, (please list their names, I forgot!). The LapCats were clearly the stars for the event and stole a few hearts as they were circulated from Lap to Lap. As the LapCats event came to a close, a lot of the residents rolled away in their wheel chairs with gracious smiles and new memories to share.
