| Join Us for CatWalk 2005!
By Shirley Brown
CATWALK 2004 PARTICIPANTS "STEPPIN' OUT FOR SPAY AND NEUTER." You know you want to. You even made New Year's Resolutions to get more exercise and to help others. So why not gather some pledges, bring some friends, and join us for CatWalk 2005? Folsom Feline Rescue will be holding its fifth annual fundraising walk-a-thon (CatWalk 2005) on Saturday, April 23, 2005. We start from historic Sutter Street in Folsom and walk in a loop a distance of 5K in view of the beautiful American River. It's a fun event with lots of adults and children, babies in strollers and backpacks, and dogs on leashes. There are balloons, banners, and some Frisbee tossing. In past years, we've even had some playful water-gun ambushes during the walk! Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. at the event desk in the parking lot across from the intersection of Sutter Street and Decatur in old town Folsom. The walk starts at 10:00 a.m. rain or shine. To get a copy of the pledge form, check out the Folsom Feline Rescue web site at www.folsomfelines.org and download a copy or call the message line at (916) 484-4099 and leave your address to have a pledge form mailed to you. Bring your pledge form and checks you have gathered and be ready to experience CatWalk 2005 with all the enthusiastic walkers on April 23. The CatWalk 2005 Committee was still finalizing the details of the after-event party when this article was written, but check our web site for more information on post-walk festivities (www.folsomfelines.org/catwalk.shtml). You may be wondering what our rescue group does with the money that we collect. The funds raised from CatWalk 2005 will be used for spay and neuter procedures for cats, dogs, and ferals. As many of you know, pet overpopulation is a community-wide problem. Thousands of unwanted cats and dogs are euthanized each year in Sacramento County in our overcrowded public shelters. Each animal that we spay or neuter prevents potential offspring (usually 4 to 6 puppies or kittens per litter) from growing up and having yet more offspring of their own. We provide funds for spay/neuter as a way to prevent unwanted litters and as a way to prevent euthanasia in Sacramento County. |
