PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Welcome to 2007. Hopefully some of your New Year's resolutions are under way.

Anyone who has tried to get help from Sacramento County or Sacramento City Animal Services knows that help is very limited. The resources are just not available.

Some parts of the county have become cities themselves and are starting their own services, about which I have heard good things. As you know from reading this newsletter, we advocate spay and neuter as the best form of animal population control (including TNR -- or trap, neuter, release -- for feral cats). We provide services that make spay and neuter very cost-effective, and even free in some cases. What is needed is for people to take an active role by trapping those strays and using our programs, or others that are available, to alter the animals. If you live in one of these new cities, contact your local animal services and help promote TNR policies. If you volunteer for a rescue group, help start your own programs for your local area. It is your county; it is your city. Every little bit will come together to make pet overpopulation history.
