SKAT FAST ASLEEP.
The power to aid in healing is a rare gift among humans. Yet, many cats posess this amazing ability. Janet, a friend of mine, has had a chronic illness since she was a teenager. About four years ago, she adopted a cat, Skat. A loyal and loving companion, Skat has stood with Janet through her ongoing struggle with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Janet says that, "When I have a migraine and am laying down, he lays down by my pillow..." Affectionate gestures such as these are many times just what an ill person needs to make it through the day.
However compassionate and devoted Skat is, he is not without problems of his own. In 2006, "Skat developed a bump on his lip," says Janet. It turns out that the bump was a tumor. Now it was Janet's turn to support Skat. After a horrific surgery by a negligent veterinarian, Skat "looked like he had been through hell." But, with some TLC and a new vet Skat finally got better, even after the tumor began to reappear. Skat underwent treatment by the new vet. He was finally given a clean bill of health six months ago.
Without their shared support, it seems that both Janet and Skat would be worse off. Because of their reciprocated love and devotion, both cat and owner benefit greatly. Through the tough times the two have been through, and continue to go through on a daily basis, Skat and Janet's bond has been cemented. "I love my cat!" Janet has gleefully admitted!
