Cat of the Month--Napa

Napa is a wonderful mother cat that we rescued from the county shelter.  She had been shot at with a BB gun and one BB had been extracted from her chest.

We named her kittens named after wines:  Merlot, Zinfandel, Muscat, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Cabernet, which explains why we named her Napa!  She raised all six kittens by herself and then acted as a surrogate mom for other kittens as well.  She is a wonderful mom and now done with raising kittens.

Napa is looking for a loving home.  She still likes to be around the youngsters if she has the chance and is generally good with other cats too.  Please contact us or stop by an adoption event if you are interested in meeting Napa.

Lung flukes are not a health problem to humans.  In order to prevent your cat from getting infected by lung fluke, the consumption of crayfish should be prevented as much as possible.  Also, mulluscicides should be used in areas with crustaceans to prevent the infection of the initial host.

Message From the President

In the last three years (since August 1999), the cost for spay and neuter surgeries of feral cats has been covered for free by the Feral Cat Altering Program or FCAP.  That program ended May 15th of this year.  There are still many feral cats that need to be altered on a continuing basis and Folsom Feline Rescue is on the front lines in dealing with the feral cat issues.

This month, we announced that we are extending our no cost spay neuter program to cover feral cats.  The new program, called the Feral Spay Neuter Program (FSNP), will provide free spay and neuter surgeries for feral cats in our coverage areas.  This new program will continue as long as funds are available and no other feral program is provided.

This month we also had our Cat Walk fundraiser and our two year anniversary party.  The Cat Walk 2002 helped raise over $1500 for our spay and neuter programs.  Our anniversary party was a great success as well.  It was fun to see everyone together, catching up, and meeting some of our new volunteers too.  Reflecting back over the past year in preparation for the party, I was amazed at all we have accomplished in only two years.  With your continued help and support we can do even more. Thanks for being there for the felines.
