AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Rebel's New Family

By Christina T.

I adopted a little "prison" kitten from Folsom Feline Rescue in May 2004. I named him "Rebel," partly from where he came from, and partly because he just charges into the room, then stops and just looks at you with "what's-sup" written all over his face! He is part Siamese, and a joy!

Having lost a valued friend, Boris, in March 2004, I really needed a new one, as my heart was just too broken. One day, I drove by one of the pet stores in town, and noticed an adoption event (I hadn't yet found Folsom Feline Rescue, so this was another group). I just had to go see. I saw this one pitiful little thing, in a huge cage, separated from all the other animals, and he looked miserable. I suspected he was sick, and in hindsight, that's probably why he was separated from all the other kittens. It was a cold day, and the wind was blowing. Well, I just happened to have an empty home and a heart with lots of love… I had to get the poor thing healthy, and with some medicine and good care, that was cured. I also discovered that the previous owner was a woman who was getting divorced who had moved into an apartment that couldn't take pets, so she just gave him up. He was only 5 months old, and I named him Rascal. I couldn't believe someone could just give up a family member, but that's another story...

A month later, I felt so sorry for Rascal, as I was putting in a lot of hours at work. Then I heard about Folsom Feline Rescue. I went to an adoption event, and found "Rebel." He was about 4 months old, and cute as a button! A brother and friend for Rascal. I took him home. Rascal was so grateful, he took to Rebel like a mother hen. I didn't have to "introduce" either of them. They instantly took to one another, started grooming each other, and have been the best of buds ever since!

It's been over a year now. I enjoy my "guys," who give me laughter and joy each day. They follow me wherever I go in the house. They are happy and healthy, with so much love in their hearts. They hate it when one discovers that the other has managed to find my lap first. Often, whoever made it second just says, "scoot over," and pretty much lands on top of the other, for lap rights. Each night, they groom each other, and I always find them intertwined for a good nap. I've never heard a fight or a hiss, just pure, trusting love.
