PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As I mentioned in our last newsletter, this was a heavy season for kittens. We are still moving through the many cats and kittens we have available for adoption, and they are all finding great homes. We even found a home, and quickly, for our 13 year-old hyperthyroid cat, Maria. Seeing a wonderful cat like Maria receive the treatment she needs and the home she deserves is what we are all about, but like everything, there is a limit to what one person, group, or organization can do.

So please continue to provide your support, locally or nationally, so that help will be there for animals when they need it. With the recent natural disasters in the news, everyone should take a moment to see if they will be prepared should disaster strike. This includes your animals. Review our microchipping article and have your pet chipped, or, if already microchipped, confirm that your records are updated. Microchipping does work! Since Folsom Feline Rescue began chipping our adoptable pets two years ago, we have received back three of our adopted cats after they got lost.

John Bennett

In the last issue of The Kitty Scoop, we told you about one of our foster cats, Maria, who had been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and needed medical care. We are happy to report that Maria has received her treatment and is doing great -- in fact, she’s been adopted!

Maria’s family reports that she’s settling in fine in her new home and has made herself at home. She is adjusting fine with the other cats in the house and is loving the attention she is receiving. Medically, she still needs to have her blood levels checked next month, but her physical improvement after treatment was incredible. Within weeks, her hair was growing back and her weight was back to normal.

For hyperthyroid kitties, the radioactive iodine is certainly the treatment of choice. (Visit www.radiocat.com for more information.) Thank you to everyone who donated for Maria’s treatment.

FEATURED FELINES

Cupcake and Pumpkin

Cupcake and Pumpkin are siblings who get along great with each other, and we would like to adopt them to one loving home so they can remain together. They are both very friendly and affectionate.

Cupcake is a female long-hair tuxedo black-and-white mix. Her brother Pumpkin is a short-hair orange and white mix. They were born in February of 2003.

If you’d like to share your home with these two sweet and loving kitties, please contact Folsom Feline Rescue at 916-484-4099 or email info@folsomfelines.org.
