This article is the third in a series that we are publishing, written by a fellow animal lover who has generously shared her stories with us. This story was originally written about a yellow Lab but I have modified it to suit a tortoiseshell calico kitten. I'm sure you will see the resemblance.

The young girl playing in the tree house noticed a slow moving car driving along the roadside. Abruptly the car stopped, then sped away, leaving behind a frightened and bewildered kitten. The beautiful tortoiseshell calico ran directly to the girl who was now standing at the base of the tree. The girl's parents informed her the kitten's owners would not be coming back but the cat could stay until new owners could be found.
It was Christmas Eve, company was due in 90 minutes, the parents returned to preparing for the evening. My husband and I arrived for the yearly holiday gathering of friends and family. A new kitten greeted us.

A loving, friendly, beautiful kitten that was in need of a home, a family. A permanent home where safety, welfare, and security was top priority. That would be our home!
Elsie is our cat now. She came into our life on Christmas Eve -- a welcome gift that was both unexpected and profoundly wanted.
You see, that very afternoon we had intended on adopting a cat but our hectic holiday schedule was too busy to get to the adoption site.
The adoption sight came to us by means of a little girl in a tree house.

the actual nutritional value of each brand. Because of things like by-products every batch of the same brand potentially has a different nutritional value.
Some animal rights organizations argue that the only humane food for your cat is homemade meal. There are books you can buy that have recipes that are nutritionally complete and balanced; however, homemade meals can be time consuming and are impractical for most households. Critics of homemade meals claim that unless you are a specialist in cat nutrition or your vet has recommended a certain recipe, it is very difficult to insure a continuous complete and balanced nutrition for your cat.
Plastic bowls can cause eating problems for some cats. Plastic keeps the smell of past meals and cleaning detergents which may discourage a cat from eating. All dishes (especially if they are plastic) should be cleaned well, using hot, soapy water, after each meal so that bacterial growth does not become a problem (if your cat eats dry food in a dish that is not plastic, the dish will not need to be cleaned as often). If your cat uses a plastic dish, you may want to consider changing to a ceramic or stainless steel feeding bowl to ensure that it is cleaned thoroughly.
