Folsom Feline Rescue advocates Trap, Neuter/spay, and Return (TNR) programs to help reduce the feral feline population and control future growth. Visit the feral cat resources page for more information on this National method of reducing feral cat populations. This page discusses our trapping policy and provides additional trapping resources.

Feral Spay/Neuter Program (FSNP)

Since August 1999 the spay and neuter of feral cats in California has been free thanks to a generous program provided by the CVMA and Maddies Fund. The Feral Cat Altering Program (FCAP) ended May 2002. Folsom Feline Rescue is now providing free spay and neuter procedures for feral cats. This program is based on limited funds and may end at any time. Residents of Folsom City qualify for this program. The cats must be feral (wild) and in a humane cat trap when delivered to a participating veterinarian. The program will cover the spay or neuter, Rabies, and 3 in 1 vaccination. After a recovery period the cats must be returned to the area where they were caught and released. This is called Trap Neuter Release (TNR) and is becoming the National method of dealing with feral cats.

Trapping Policy

Our volunteers will provide trapping services to the Folsom community following these guidelines:

  • After recovery from surgery felines will be returned where trapped providing no other medical conditions inhibit release.
  • Food and water must be provided to the feral cat(s) after release.
  • The right ear will be tipped to indicate the feral cat has been altered.
  • All felines will be trapped and cared for in a humane manner in accordance with posted policies of Maddies Fund, CVMA, and SPCA organizations.

Borrow-A-Trap

Humane animal trapsAs a community service we have a number of cat traps available for loan. There is no rental cost involved but we do collect a $60.00 CASH deposit that is refunded when the trap returns. The Borrow-A-Trap program is currently available in Folsom and neighboring communities.

Traps are loaned for use only when the guidelines listed above are followed. Our traps can not be used if the feline is to be euthanized by a shelter or veterinarian unless it is medically necessary for the feline. You will be asked to sign an agreement to these conditions.

Contact us to reserve a trap. Limited availability.

Colony Care

Do you currently care for a feral colony of cats? We can help provide food and other assistance. We occasionally get more food than we can use and would like to provide this surplus to feral care. Please contact us if you are a colony caregiver and would like more information on our colony care support.
